Censoring the Manics…

The Manic Street Preachers return next week with their ninth studio album Journal For Plague Lovers, but what’s an album release without a good, old fashioned kick-off between the band and the retailers?

Always trying to push contemporary boundaries, the boys from Blackwood have taken it that one step further by featuring what appears to be a young child having been on the receiving end of one almighty bitch slap. Retailers in the UK have arranged for sleeves to cover their new album in case it offends people’s fragile little minds.

In a pretty fair response, lead singer James Dean Bradfield did comment that a lot of other albums and lad mag’s that litter retailers shelves feature plenty of other questionable material, like tits and guns and stuff. 

The artwork in question was done by artist Jenny Saville who also did the design for The Holy Bible (not that one, the Manic’s 94 album). James and co state that all they saw was art and thinks the situation is clearly a storm in a tea cup, although it does look suspiciously like that kid on the cover had to be told “no”…
